In recent months, cybersecurity has made the news on a near-daily basis, with reports of everything from an alleged attack on U.S. weapons systems to the theft of corporate information from 141 targets in the U.S. and other countries. In fact, an estimated 137.4 million cyber attacks took place in 2012 alone, according to an IBM report, and former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has forewarned of a coming cyber Pearl Harbor.

The need for more trustworthy systems is only likely to grow, as we increasingly rely on information technology to power our most critical infrastructure. The Information Trust Institute is launching a new newsletter to keep you informed on how our research, education and outreach are creating a more reliable and secure cyber world.

In this issue, you'll learn about our work to validate and verify the power grid and debug mobile-cloud applications, as well as a new researcher whose research focuses on the interplay and co-evolution of information and networks. You can also check out ITI's many educational programs – from the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid Summer School this June to the Formal Methods for the Science of Security Summer School in July.

Thank you for taking a few moments to learn about these important initiatives.
