A new exhibit entitled "Mission Smart Grid" is opening at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum in Champaign, Illinois.

The grand opening will take place at 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18th.

The interactive exhibit will teach visitors about electricity production and delivery, exploring how new technologies will increase options for consumers to use electronic devices to manage their electricity consumption. Visitors will learn about the balance between energy costs and concerns about climate change and the environment. They will be able to consider effects of increasing amounts of renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

This exciting and important exhibit is the result of collaboration among the Information Trust Institute (ITI) and the Office for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTE) at the University of Illinois and the Orpheum Children's Science Museum. The exhibit is made possible through a grant from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement at the University of Illinois and funding support for the Trustworthy Cyber Infrastructure for the Power Grid (TCIPG) Center from U.S. Departments of Energy and Homeland Security.

Due to the installation of this exhibit the museum will be closed from September 13th through 17th.

If you would like more information about this family event please contact the museum at 217-352-5895 or go online to the museum website at http://orpheumkids.com and look under "events."
