The Information Trust Institute (ITI) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has named Scott Pickard as its new Associate Director.

When asked about his new role, Pickard said, "I'm really pleased and honored to be a part of ITI, because its mission to improve information security is critical to our world. Everything runs on computer software and large networked systems, and we depend on these systems to operate smoothly and reliably every second of every day. I look forward to being part of the growth and success of ITI in the coming years."

On the selection of Pickard, ITI Director William H. Sanders commented, "Scott brings to ITI a wealth of knowledge from his past experience with high-level management of technology initiatives at the University of Illinois as well as many years of prior experience in high-tech industry. We are very fortunate to have him joining our team."

ITI is an interdisciplinary research unit that combines research and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems. 95 faculty and senior researchers from across campus belong to ITI, whose research mission is to conduct foundational and applied research to enable the creation of critical applications and cyber infrastructures. More than twenty departments from seven Colleges and three other major institutes at Illinois participate in ITI's broad range of research work.

Pickard will formally join ITI on February 2. As Associate Director, he will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at ITI, managing and growing stakeholder relationships, and leading the acquisition of resources for ITI's research and education programs. He is replacing previous Associate Director Molly Tracy, who left ITI to become Associate Dean for Advancement at the Illinois College of Engineering.

Pickard comes to ITI from EnterpriseWorks and the University of Illinois Research Park, where he held a joint appointment as Director of EnterpriseWorks and Manager of the Research Park and its incubation facilities. He has over three decades of experience in the management and administration of high-tech organizations and firms.

About the Information Trust Institute (ITI)

The Information Trust Institute is a multidisciplinary cross-campus research unit housed in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is an international leader combining research and education with industrial outreach in trustworthy and secure information systems. ITI is home to six research centers along with its Center for Information Assurance Education. ITI brings together over 90 faculty, many senior and graduate student researchers, and industry partners to conduct foundational and applied research to enable the creation of critical applications and cyber infrastructures. In doing so, ITI is creating computer systems, software, and networks that society can depend on to be trustworthy, that is, secure, dependable (reliable and available), correct, safe, private, and survivable. Instead of concentrating on narrow and focused technical solutions, ITI aims to create a new paradigm for designing trustworthy systems from the ground up and validating systems that are intended to be trustworthy. www.iti.illinois.edu
